Before she died, Theo asked that any donations in her memory go to supporting the National Park Foundation. As often as she could, she backpacked, day hiked, meditated, and marveled at the beauty of nature, which she especially found in National Parks throughout the country. She grew up hiking in Teton National Park, and later made many trips to backpack and camp in one of her favorites, Grand Canyon National Park, where she loved its "massive silence."
Please give whatever you can in her honor to the National Park Foundation through this page. Feel free to leave notes and memories to share with everyone on the message board. We look forward to reading them.
Below is one of Theo's favorite poems that sits on her mantle at home. It represents her oneness with the outdoors and the National Park experience.
MIXED CHORUS
On frosty nights of autumn
and frosty nights of spring
I hear the wild geese shouting
and hear the coyotes sing.
Sad voices from the hills,
stout voices from the sky,
grief and cheers and wild things--
one blood, they and I.
